Eleven primary schools took part in the Avon Valley School Sports Partnership Gymnastics Festival recently.
The annual event held at the Amesbury Sports Centre involved 167 pupils and was split into a morning and afternoon session. Students from Avon Valley College, who are members of the gym club, helped out.
“Everyone who took part worked hard remembering and refining a set sequence which they performed in front of a judge,” said Avon Valley College PE teacher, Collette Harries. “The judge was looking for good body tension, balances being held for three seconds, as well as remembering the sequence and having good control.”
When the pupils weren’t performing they had a chance to try some different gymnastic skills including rhythmic (ball, hoops, ribbons), partner balances, vaulting, trampette work, cheerleading and the inflatable tumble mat.
“A massive thank you to Crazy Cartwheels Gym club based at Amesbury Sports Centre for allowing us to use their equipment and for their two coaches Maria who judged and Carly who coached the vault,” said Collette Harries.
