Fashion & Textiles A Level

Develop your skills in a broad range of textile and fashion based processes and technologies within a functional or decorative context. Explore printing and image transfer, knit, stitch, weave, felt making and garment making. You will be taught by textile and fashion specialists.

+ Course details and future career paths

First Year

Students will spend the first term and a half exploring a variety of textile techniques such as applique, print making, felt making and machine embroidery. During the exam students will have the opportunity to begin to further develop skills in their own chosen areas.

Second Year

In the second year students will choose their own areas of study and will set their own design briefs. The work is much more independent with advice and guidance from the staff. During the second year of study the assessment for the full A level is divided into two units.

Unit One- Personal Investigation- 60% of full A level

Unit Two- Controlled Assignment- 40% of full A level

+ Progression

This subject provides a sound basis for students who wish to proceed to Further or Higher Education as well as being a useful background for any career in this field. These include: designer, buyer, pattern cutter, marketing, advertising, journalism, manufacture management in the Fashion or Textile industry, costume for theatre/TV, furniture, conservation and restoration and Interior Design.
